Jasmine is an internationally qualified Provisional Psychologist with postgraduate training in school psychology from San Diego State University in California. She graduated with the highest academic distinction and is now completing the period of supervised practice required for general registration as a psychologist in Australia.

Jasmine has experience supporting primary and secondary school students through counselling, cognitive and academic assessment, social-emotional learning programs and collaborative educational planning. She has worked extensively with culturally and linguistically diverse students and families, neurodivergent young people, children in foster care and sexuality- and gender-diverse young people.

Jasmine has a particular ability to connect with children and teenagers who may be reluctant to open up, have struggled with traditional counselling or have previously been described as defiant, hyperactive or difficult to engage. She looks beyond these descriptions to understand what the young person may be communicating and what they need to feel safe, understood and able to participate.

Jasmine appreciates that trusting someone to support your child can feel vulnerable. She takes this responsibility seriously, actively includes families in the therapeutic process and welcomes questions about a child’s needs, progress and support outside sessions.

Psychology

Jasmine uses a warm, culturally responsive, neurodiversity-affirming and strengths-based approach. Drawing upon positive psychology, she helps young people recognise the qualities they value in themselves while developing practical skills for navigating difficulties.

Jasmine adapts sessions to each young person’s developmental needs, communication style, personality and interests. With younger clients, she may use creative activities, visual metaphors, play and shared interests to explore the connection between emotions, the body and the world around them.

With adolescents, Jasmine may draw upon cognitive behavioural therapy to explore patterns of thinking and consider whether these patterns are helping or hindering the young person’s goals. She may also use solution-focused brief therapy with young people who prefer structured, present-focused sessions centred on practical goals and future change.

Jasmine understands that not every young person feels comfortable with a traditional talk-based counselling format. She uses creativity, humour and genuine curiosity to help young people feel comfortable, respected and able to participate in a way that works for them.

Jasmine’s areas of particular interest include:

  • children and adolescents who are reluctant to engage in therapy;
  • emotional identification, communication and regulation;
  • anger and behaviour that others may find challenging;
  • ADHD-related support and executive functioning;
  • social communication and participation;
  • school engagement and academic difficulties;
  • culturally and linguistically diverse children and families;
  • cultural identity, heritage and belonging;
  • LGBTQIA+ children, adolescents and families;
  • children and young people in foster and out-of-home care;
  • bullying related to culture, gender or sexuality; and
  • strengths-based and identity-affirming practice.
MS, BA
English; Jasmine is conversational in Mandarin and is comfortable participating in interpreter-supported appointments where clinically appropriate.
Outside the clinic, Jasmine is a recreational musician, writer and enthusiastic computer gamer. She can often be found playing piano with her band, attending a local poetry slam or settling into a computer game. Jasmine is always happy to hear about Minecraft, Roblox or whichever game is currently taking over a young person’s world. She enjoys using children’s interests, creativity and humour to build genuine connections and help therapy feel less formal. Jasmine is proudly Chinese and welcomes conversations about heritage, cultural identity and belonging. She loves working with young people because they are still discovering who they are and how they want to show up in the world. She values helping them feel heard, recognise what is already strong within them and become more confident expressing themselves.
