At The Daisy Clinic, we understand that the early years are a vital window for growth and learning. That’s why we offer Dev-Check — a free developmental screening program for children aged five and under who live in the Hawkesbury region. Dev-Check is designed to give families clarity, reassurance, and guidance around their child’s development.

Frequently Asked Questions – Dev-Check
What should I bring to the appointment?
Please bring your child’s Blue Book (Personal Health Record) to the screening appointment. This helps us review developmental milestones. If available, you’re also welcome to bring any reports or notes from preschool, daycare, or previous health professionals.
Is Dev-Check suitable if my child is already seeing a speech pathologist or occupational therapist?
No. Dev-Check is designed for children who are not currently accessing early intervention supports, including services funded by the NDIS. If your child is already receiving support, we recommend contacting us about more comprehensive assessment options.
Will my child receive a diagnosis through Dev-Check?
No. Dev-Check is a developmental screening, not a diagnostic assessment. Its purpose is to identify whether there may be delays or areas that require further attention.
What’s the difference between a developmental screening and a developmental assessment?
A developmental screening is a brief check to see if a child is meeting typical developmental milestones for their age. It helps identify whether there may be early signs of a delay or concern and whether further support might be needed. Dev-Check is a screening, not a diagnostic tool.
A developmental assessment, on the other hand, is a comprehensive evaluation that involves in-depth testing, observations, and standardised measures across multiple areas of development. Assessments are used to diagnose developmental conditions and provide detailed information for tailored support and intervention planning.
Dev-Check can help families decide if a full developmental assessment is the appropriate next step.
Who completes the Dev-Check screening?
Screenings are completed by a registered psychologist who is experienced in developmental assessment. Your child will be supported by a clinician with specialised training in early childhood development.
How long does the appointment take?
Dev-Check sessions typically run for 30 to 45 minutes, including a parent interview and direct observation of your child.
What happens after the appointment?
You will receive a written summary report outlining the results of the DP-4 screening. If the psychologist identifies areas of concern, our reception team can assist you in making an appointment with the most appropriate professional, such as a psychologist, speech pathologist, or occupational therapist.
Can the Dev-Check report be used to access early intervention supports through the NDIS?
Yes. While it is not a diagnostic report, the Dev-Check summary report can be used to support an application to the NDIS under the Early Childhood Approach, by providing evidence of developmental concerns across key areas.
Who can make a referral for Dev-Check?
- Early childhood educators or preschool staff
- General practitioners (GPs)
- Maternal and child health nurses
- Community organisations or support workers
